Write a letter asking him to wait for you at the airport and tell him how to identify you.

Hope you are fine. I am so excited to meet you and have you in my city. I am sure we will spend some quality time together. Unfortunately, due to a sudden oral exam, I might be an hour late to receive you at the airport.

Actually, one of my university teachers is due to go to the UK on the same day for an international conference, and he wants to take an oral test before his departure. So, I have to attend the exam on the same schedule you are set to arrive. Hence, it would hard for me to manage everything in time. I am afraid I would make delay to reach the airport to receive you. Would you mind if I ask you to wait at the airport for about an hour? I will reach there once the exam is over and will be wearing a deep blue T-shirt and white jeans. During the hour, you can browse some shops at the airport and enjoy a movie at the airport theatre.

Hope you will not feel uncomfortable waiting for an hour.
