Your mentor recommended you to learn a new language and gave you contact details of a teacher. Following his advice, you need to write a letter to the teacher.

I am Robinson Neil, a post-graduate student at the University of Michigan. My college teacher Mr James Light has recently recommended you as one of the best teachers to learn Spanish from and I am writing to express my interest to learn the language from you.

My grandfather is from Spain and I have a plan to work there for at least two years before I get back to the USA again. Since I have a plan to work in Spain after my post-graduation, I want to learn the language. Mr James is one of the best teachers and fatherly figures to me and he specifically mentioned you when I expressed my interest to learn Spanish a few days ago. Hence I am writing to request you to be my Spanish teacher.

I can start right away but that would depend on your schedule. I am expecting that you will take me under your wing and guide me with your vast knowledge and experience to learn Spanish.
