IELTS GT Writing Task 1 (Letter Writing) Sample:
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. You live in a room in college which you share with another student. You find it very difficult to study/work there because he or she always has friends visiting. They have parties in the room and sometimes borrow your things without asking you.
Write a letter to the Accommodation Officer at the college and ask for a new room next term. You would prefer a single room. Explain your reasons. You should write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write your own address.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir,
Model Answer:
Dear Sir,
I am a student at your university and I share my room with a junior student. I am experiencing some unavoidable problems and hence seeking your help on this.
I reside in room D-204, block- D. I have been living with my current roommate in the university hostel for the past six months and thought that the problems would be sorted out automatically. However, things are getting worse! My roommate has a strange routine and he likes to have parties at night with his friends. It is quite difficult to study amid a crowd of people who talk and listen to music loudly. Often, my roommate borrows my stuff without my permission. Sometimes, things go missing and later I come to know that the thing was borrowed by my roommate’s friend. This is unacceptable and difficult to face.
So, considering my approaching exam, I am humbly asking you to shift me to a new room next term. I would prefer a single room because I need to spend more time on my study.
Expecting your cooperation in this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Adel Morcel
